Jakarta. The success of the Malaysian Association Tour and Travel Agents Fair, which took place at the Putra World Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur on Sept. 8-10, has prompted the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism to advance the Bali and Beyond Travel Fair, or BBTF.
"The Matta Fair has motivated me to upgrade the BBTF; I want the BBTF to rival the Matta Fair," I Gde Pitana, deputy for foreign marketing development at the ministry, said during the opening of the Malaysian event.
Last year, the Matta Fair attracted around 40,000 people per day and recorded total transactions worth $3.19 million.
"If we bring that success into the BBTF and modify it with Balinese culture, it will be a huge marketplace. More foreign buyers and sellers will perform transactions in Indonesia," Pitana said.
According to a statement the ministry issued on Sunday (10/09), 174 sellers from 19 provinces and 198 local and international buyers attended this year's BBTF.
