Jakarta. This year's Social Media Week Jakarta, themed "Language and the Machine: The Future of Communication," kicked off at The Hall in Senayan City in South Jakarta on Monday (11/09).
The event returns to Jakarta for its third year, having taken place in the city for the first time in 2015. Similar events are also held in London and São Paulo.
"Considering the rapid growth, as well as the potentials and challenges of Indonesia's digital industry, I hope events like Social Media Week Jakarta will be the industry's barometer and a platform, which can enrich the knowledge of practitioners and enthusiasts, as well as stimulate the growth of the industry itself," said Social Media Week Jakarta chairman Antonny Liem, who is also the chief executive of internet and advertising group Merah Cipta Media.
Various talks and workshops will be hosted until Friday, exploring how technology is transforming the way people communicate with each other, and how businesses connect with their customers.
The topics will not only concentrate on social media, but also financial technology, artificial intelligence, content marketing and ways brands can engage Indonesian customers who are members of generations X, Y, and Z.
More than 30 experts will deliver talks between Wednesday and Friday on the main stage, known as the Conference Stage. Among them are executives from online platforms such as Google, Facebook, LinkedIn and Line; and prominent brands, including Adidas and Disney.
Well-known public figures, such as television host Najwa Shihab and film director Dimas Djayaningrat, will also take to the stage.
There will also be 12 community meetup sessions per day between Wednesday and Friday. The meetups are aimed at digital industry professionals, bloggers, influencers and emerging entrepreneurs or startup developers who want to improve their marketing and publicity through social media.
Starting from Tuesday, there will also be more than 10 workshops, which mostly center on social media marketing, at Ming Restaurant inside the mall.
Daily passes for the Conference Stage and the community meetups range between Rp 50,000 and Rp 3,600,000 ($4-$273), while tickets to the workshops are sold separately. All can be purchased on Social Media Week Jakarta's official website.
