Jakarta. The Indonesian Military, or TNI, replaced on Sunday (19/03) a comical grinning tiger statue in front of its base in Cisewu, West Java, with a fierce, altogether less humorous one.
The tiger became a laughing stock and was demolished on Wednesday, after its images were spread by social media users, including Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil:
"Many users have been editing it. What's the meaning of this artwork?" Ridwan asked his online followers in an Instagram post that received more than 170,000 likes.
Vincent Chandra, social media user who first uploaded the photo of Cisewu's now infamous statue, swiftly apologized to the TNI through Twitter.
"As the first uploader of the Cisewu Tiger, which is now going viral, I apologize to @tni_ad since I had no intention to insult it," he tweeted on Wednesday.
"No need to say sorry, we're grateful for the criticism we received. Our tiger is more handsome now," TNI tweeted on its official account @tni_ad on Saturday.
Sebetulnya gak perlu minta maaf sih mas, kami lah yg pantas berterima kasih sudah diberi kritikan bagus. Sekarang macan kami lebih gagah
