Jakarta. The Indonesian Military, or TNI, and the Ministry of Defense on Thursday (11/01) agreed to strengthen cooperation and focus on professionalism and well-being of soldiers.
"This meeting should serve to spur both spirit and synergy between the ministry and TNI, along with other institutions that work on national defense," Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said during a meeting in Central Jakarta.
During the occasion, Indonesian Military chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto touched on increasing efforts to improve professionalism and well-being of Indonesian soldiers.
"We will increase the soldiers' capacities through education and training … we will also procure almost 7,000 flats for them to have proper housing where they are stationed," Hadi said.
He added that improving professionalism is necessary for the military to carry out its obligations.
The focus on professionalism and well-being is part of Indonesia's 2018 defense priorities. It also includes developing a strong, independent and competitive national defense industry.
According to the Ministry of Defense, threats of open conflicts, terrorism and cybercrimes were taken into consideration in the formulation of this year's priorities.
