Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo surprised hundreds of youths as he attended the We The Fest 2017 music festival at JIExpo Kemayoran in North Jakarta on Friday evening (11/08).

The president arrived at the festival venue after attending the national gathering of his supporters held in the same location.

"I am observing what the millennial generation is like to be able to work on future policies ... If we don't observe the field, we won't know the market," he said.

Wearing the festival's jersey, Jokowi added that the creative industry is the nation's economic strength.

"The creative industry is our power, it should be addressed well ... to introduce Indonesia to foreign markets. We are giving the youth room to innovate based on their creativity," Jokowi said.

The president spent almost an hour at the festival, enjoying the performances of Charlie XCX and Kodaline.

However, when asked about the artists, he admitted to not knowing who they were.

"I do not know them. In my times it was Led Zeppelin, Nazareth, Judas Priest and Metallica. I think the era has changed. But I want to see these changes," he said.

The president ended his impromptu visit by shaking hands with members of the audience and taking pictures with them.

The festival will end on Sunday.
