Jakarta. The most famous films by Japanese animation film company Studio Ghibli will be released in 17 cities across Indonesia, Kaninga Pictures and Hakuhodo DY announced on Tuesday (14/03).
From April to September, moviegoers will be able to see "My Neighbor Totoro," "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea," "Princess Mononoke," "Howl's Moving Castle" and Academy Award-winning "Spirited Away" on the screens of Cinema XXI, which is the event's partner. One movie title will be rolled out on the first week of each month, starting with Hayao Mizayaki's "Spirited Away."
For many animation fans in Indonesia, this is a rare chance to see Studio Ghibi's masterpieces in proper cinemas. The films are usually screened only during film festivals.
Kaninga Pictures chief executive Willawati said in a statement that Studio Ghibli has many devoted fans from all over the world, thanks to the quality of their animation and heartwarming stories about family love, nature and women's empowerment.
"We hope that Studio Ghibli's films will be well received not only by their Indonesian fans but also by the general public," she said.
