Jakarta. Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat will visit Moscow, Russia, in early August to participate in Festival Indonesia, an event meant to celebrate cooperation between the capital "sister cities" of both countries.

Muhammad Mawardi, head of foreign cooperation within Jakarta's provincial administration, said Djarot will attend the event upon an invitation from the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow.

Festival Indonesia, slated for August 4-6, has been initiated by the embassy in Moscow to promote tourism to the Southeast Asian country and market Indonesian products in Russia.

It will be the second of such festival ever held in Moscow.

"Governor [Djarot] will come to the festival, where he will also sign an extension of the Jakarta-Moscow 'sister cities' agreement, which has expired," Mawardi said last week.

Jakarta and Moscow inked a sister cities agreement in 2015 and agreed to promote mutual cultural and commercial ties. The agreement expired last year, but due to administrative delays, a new pact has yet to be inked.

Djarot will reportedly be accompanied by high level officials from Jakarta's administration and the city's Regional Legislative Council.
