Jokowi Meets With Pence to Discuss Economy, Investment
Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo welcomed United States Vice President Mike Pence at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (20/04).
In the meeting Jokowi and Pence discussed the bilateral cooperation in the economical, energetic and educational sectors within the US-Indonesia Strategic Partnership.
The two then continued the talks on the back terrace of the palace, a meeting place which famously hosts the "veranda meetings" for only the most special of guests.
"The United States' commitment to increase partnership with Indonesia will be focused on cooperation and investment. Next month, there will be a team to discuss the setup in trade and investment, based on a win-win solution," Jokowi said.
"As the world's most populous Muslim-majority country and the third largest democracy, we also agreed to strengthen our cooperation in peacebuilding," the president added.
Pence replied that US President Donald Trump highly values the strategic partnership established in 2011, adding that both countries must also ensure equal participation in bilateral trade.
“[...] US and Indonesia will work even more closely for mutual benefit of our nations, our people & SE Asia as a whole,” Pence also wrote in his official twitter account on Thursday.
