Jokowi to Meet Singapore PM Lee in Annual Leaders Retreat

Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is set to meet Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long on Thursday (07/09) during the Indonesia-Singapore annual leaders' retreat, where the two leaders will discuss efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

According to a statement released by the presidential press bureau chief Bey Machmudin, Jokowi and Lee will meet at the Istana in Singapore and sign a number of memorandums of understanding, including in disaster management and education.

"There are at least four issues that they will discuss, which are investments, tourism, energy and the digital economy," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said, as quoted in the statement.

Retno added that the Indonesian Air Force and Singapore Air Force will conduct a combined flypast on Thursday, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations.

The event, which will be witnessed by Jokowi and Lee, can be viewed by the public in the Marina South area in Singapore, will feature both air forces' F-16 jets forming the number 50.

Indonesia and Singapore have enjoyed a close partnership in multiple sectors, including in defense, economics and tourism.

In 2015, bilateral trade between the two countries amounted to more than $58 billion. That same year, the two countries were each other's top sources of international tourists.

Singapore is also Indonesia's fifth-largest trade partner after China, the United States, Japan and India.

During his visit, Jokowi will also attend the Singapore-Indonesia Business Investment Forum and conduct one-on-one meetings with chief executives of Singaporean companies.
