Jakarta. National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia and the Mexican government are exploring closer cooperation to develop more business opportunities in the tourism sector.
During a visit to the headquarters of Garuda Indonesia in Cengkareng, Banten, Mexican Ambassador Federico Salas said this cooperation is aimed at establishing a joint promotional program to boost tourism between the two countries.
"We will continue to support efforts to increase cooperation between Garuda Indonesia and the government of Mexico, particularly in terms of improving the tourism sector in the two countries," Salas said in a statement received by the Jakarta Globe on Monday (20/03).
Garuda Indonesia president director M. Arif Wibowo said the airline is open to the possible strategic cooperation on tourism development.
"As we have done this before with other countries' tourism agencies, this joint promotion program has been proven to have a positive impact on tourism development and aviation, as well as increasing market share for the carrier," Arif said.
Ambassador Salas also expressed his country's gratitude for the codeshare cooperation between Garuda Indonesia and Aeroméxico, his country's flag carrier, in October last year.
Garuda Indonesia announced a codeshare partnership deal with Aeroméxico to tap both growing regional markets. Under the deal, passengers can travel between the two countries on Garuda Indonesia and Aeroméxico with tickets issued by either airline.
Garuda Indonesia passengers can book journeys to major cities in Mexico, such as Acapulco, Cancun, Guadalajara and Monterrey, from Denpasar, Bali, via Narita Airport in Japan, while Aeroméxico passengers can travel to Denpasar and Jakarta, also via Japan.
